Girls Select Parents Happy Hour

Please block off Friday afternoon, June 1, for Select Parents Happy Hour.

Let's meet at your local pub, tavern, or sports bar to celebrate one month (give or take a week) when WE the parents have all (OK, most of) the leverage. When clubs and coaches court us and our DD (and our money). When we are free to practice (or not) with whoever. When new teams are born, and old crappy teams get deserved demise.

If you use that money that you would have been paying to the club, we should have enough cash for a round or two of drinks. Only 9 days left until June 1.

Will there be on in Houston? A big chunk of us will be there (or on the way there) for the Texas Shoot Out.

Besides, if they go to one here, the cab fare to Houston will be huge for those that have one too many.

I drink because this is my 3rd (and last) kid to go through the select soccer meat grinder. Started with the 1st kid who is now 30 and haven't been sober since. After this one heads to college in 3 years I will either sober up or have chronic liver failure.

TOMORROW IS THE BIG HAPPY HOUR. Drop off your DD to the open practice of your choice (or not) with a new team (or the same one), and join us in raising a glass (wine glass, shot glass, pint glass, or whatever your fancy) wherever you can get one to select parents everywhere. For about 30 days, give or take a week, the clubs and coaches have to kiss up to us.


Enjoy your open practice month, more money in the checking account (but only until July), temporary cooler weather, and freedom to practice wherever.

Here's to new beginnings for those that need it, to parents who have sent 2, 3, 4 or more kids through this craziness and lived to tell about it, to parents of 5 year olds just starting out, and to those who love the game and the kids who play it. And here's to a safe and healthy open practice season to all DDs.

Will be in Houston this weekend, am in the process of locating the nearest Hooters. Will raise a toast to all of us who were deranged enough to get into this mess in the 1st place. For those concerned about my well being the wife will be driving. When we meet she rarely drank but after 20 years of select soccer she can now slam um down with the professionals. On second thought maybe we will take a cab. Merry Christmas to all and to all a good night.
