'01 State Cup
'01 State Cup
Some interesting results on Saturday, but looks like the cream pretty much rose to the top for the semis.
Heard that there was a bit of a controversy over a play that may have been key in deciding who advanced out of bracket D?
What say ye???

Cream did rise to the top. At most 4 out of top 5 D1 finishers could move on to the semis and that is exactly what happened. D3 & D2 teams showed well and D1 teams finished last in all brackets except in bracket A where Jazz got to play against two D1 teams.

I agree with Jae. I was very impressed with the teams out of D2 and D3 as they played some great soccer. The Grubb/Flanny match up was set up for the best game on Sunday. Heard the Grubb goalie got a yellow card (in the box) that resulted in a Flanny PK that was converted...thus 1-1.

Sting Hilton had a great showing. Congrats!
I think I speak for most of the Sting North Angell families in saying we thoroughly enjoyed the weekend. We signed up for a challenge and we got it! It was kind of disappointing to only be scheduled to play 2 games so I can see now why more teams don't sign up for State Cup as "just another tournament". Even so it was worth it. I personally hope our D3/soon-to-be D2 team keeps challenging itself against the kind of excellent teams we played this weekend.

Did the fact that there were multiple Sting and Texans teams influence the seeding committee to allow Texans and Flanny to have their own brackets?
Seeding is based on standings at the end of Fall play (unless that has changed recently).

That is exactly what they did.

That is exactly what they did.
A: Kicks (1), Texans FW (8 ), Jazz (14)
B: Solar (2), Andro (7), Sting A (13)
C: D'Feeters (3), Texans (6), Texans W (10), Texans N R (12)
D: FCD (4), Sting F (5), Sting N (9), Sting H (11)
Based on my read of the fall standings, unless I am mistaken, which is likely, they snaked top 8, then snaked backwards bottom 6, but swapped #9 & #10 so that Sting N is with other Sting teams and Texans W is with other Texans teams.

Kicks is beatable just like the rest of the top 01 teams. We are happy with being able to compete with the best NTX teams, especially since the 01 group is very deep. Lots of talent from D3 to D1.dewyoxburger wrote:looks like a bunch of good games were played this weekend. Who is Jazz? Saw they lost 12-1 or something like that. Kicks also bet DTFW 5-1. Will anybody compete with them?

Re: '01 State Cup
Sure there were some surprises with Sing Angell vs. Andromeda, Sting Hilton playing some close games, and Texans Red North beating D'feeters, but that's why you gotta play multiple games to get through to the semis. I'll throw out a prediction of Kicks vs Solar Red in the finals with Solar Red proving JM's comment was correct..............................and I hate saying that.................I love what Kicks is doing.
Good luck to the 4 teams this weekend and to everyone with their summer tournaments, tryouts, singing parties, etc.
