So I was watching my son playing his REC soccer game when on another field, some other boys (U9-U10 is my guess) was playing.  My understanding from the parents on that side the one team was winning 6-0 at half time and the other team had only about one shot on goal, if that.

So in the second half, the coach who's team was leading, made a few changes to positions including the GK but heard one him yell at 5 passes first (it appeared he told the boys to complete 5 passes before shooting, as I heard him say "start over" several times).

So it got me thinking, if your DD/Son was on the losing side - REC or COMP, and there might be a difference, would you prefer the team leading to:

*Continue Scoring (even if its 12-0 at the end of the game)
*Continue Scoring with changes to positions {FWDS to DEF & vice versa}
*Pass the Ball around & work on skills
*OR other

????

play the game and get trounced. chasing a ball back and forth for 35 minutes does a disservice to the game and the teams. there are worse things than losing....

I agree.

It would upset me if an opposing coach told his players to do that or intentionally play "one down" to try to make the game more competitive.

Bring your full force and smash my team as best you can. It will teach my team what they need to work on (usually first touch) as well as what other teams, who work hard, are capable of.

With keeping a full team on the field, switch out the better players for the lessor skilled and switch positions........all the while still trying to score.
