Coaches beware

I just witnessed the most intense recruiting campaign by a coach after our game at City Futsal. The guy got a couple of phone numbers from parents and was handing out info about his team. Thank goodness this was our 07's last Futsal game until after the fall academy season is over..

Where is the news in this post?
Coaches are for the most part independent contractors working for the clubs and their pay is based on the number of teams they have and the number of players on the team. Every practice and game is a sales opportunity.

Hmm, the handout thing could be news. Slick promo pieces or just photocopied sheets?

How about coaches simply outwork the other guy? Parents can then choose to stay put because they believe in their coach. Coaches do not own players, not at academy at least.

Definitely agree that this type of recruiting is very tacky, and have never been a fan. However, you sound worried about this, and that begs the question "Why"?
If you are treating your girls well, developing them well, and have good communication with your parents, then you shouldn't be worried about some guy being able to draw your girls away with a flyer and a sideline pitch.
Also, ask yourself if you really want the kind of parents on your team who can be lured away in this manner. You may be better off in the long run without them.

He wasn't recriting my players, and he didn't talk with any of the parents during the game. He did get the contact info of a couple of parents with kids on a Solar team. He had some kind of handout with paper tabs on the side kind of like what you would see for lawn work or lost dog.

Yeah, the coach knew which club and team to try to recruit from with developing quality players.
