'01 State Cup Brackets and Schedule

I don't remember from years before, but is it normal to have only two games in bracket play to determine who advances in State Cup?    Here are the five brackets set up for State cup:

This is the third year in a row that the '03 age group will have this to some extent.  The past two years it was a couple of the groups in '03 bracket play.  This year it is all five groups in '03 bracket play.

If memory serves me correct, DD's team has been in a 3-team bracket in at least 1 prior State Cup and only played 2 games.  However, this is the first year that the '01's have had quarter-finals with wildcards advancing out of bracket.  All previous years had 4 brackets with only bracket winners advancing directly to semi-finals.

I am kinda scratching my head at how the 11th place team in LHGCL pulls the 7th place team from PPL D1 as their 2nd opponent, while the 9th place team in LHGCL pulls the 14th place team in LHGCL, and the 8th place team in LHGCL pulls the 15th place team in LHGCL.

According to someone I spoke to from a different age group, the brackets were set up based on fall standings using a snake or serpentine method for the first 10. The lowest seeded team was then placed in the same bracket as the top seed with 11-14 placed in order in brackets B thru E. It kinda makes sense since you usually have the top and lowest seeded teams in the same bracket when there are 4 teams per but who knows. I'm sure there probably was some position jockeying going on at the managers meeting but, IMO, wouldn't it have been easier to just add 1 more team and go with 4 - 4 team brackets with Bracket winners advancing to the semis instead of 5 - 3 team brackets with wildcards and quarterfinals?

A few of these brackets have the potential to have goal differentials in the double digit range.

My DD's team was in a 3-team bracket each of the last two years. It's all about how many teams enter the tournament. Last year, there were 13 teams. No way to make that work with 4-team brackets unless one team is told to stay home.

Regarding bwgophers head-scratching urge, it doesn't seem right that D'feeters plays Hotspurs although they do get Dallas Kicks as their other game.

It would appear that one win and one tie will lead to a quarterfinal spot. Brackets D & E will be interesting.

Any word on reschedules from the rainouts to kick this thing off? What is Plan B?

Our game tonight got moved to Monday at the same time and place so they may just do that with everyone.

Top seeds in each bracket held serve, so to speak and advance to Quarter Finals.  Wildcard results were some surprises in my opinion.   Congrats to NTFC for moving on and to AYSES East and Rockwall Hot Spurs for a good showing in bracket play.  Quarter Final match ups are below:
