Well done ladies. You competed hard and earned spots to play this weekend sub regionals. Good luck in representing the NTX soccer community. Keep pushing each other to be better.

Well maybe BBB's kid will change that. Maybe he will get ODP turned around in NTX.

Go on and make that list BBB, we would love to have your kid represent region 3! cheers

I thought this was discussed on this forum before that majority of the "BETTER" NTX players don't participate in ODP.. Am I wrong for "ASSUMING" this?

No it has been discussed ad nauseum.  It is in fact the case.  But NTX does need representation and BBB is trying to pump up those that made it.  Good luck ladies.  Get your names on that list and turn things around.  No hill too steep.

There really is an easy fix to the NTX ODP problems.

You can't turn around anymore without bumping into a skills guru who guarantees to make any kid a player. Parents are showering these guys with cash. Heck, some of them who never coached a lick are considered "legendary" in these parts.

NTX just needs to hire a couple of the gurus to run ODP. Build it and they will come.

I'm pretty sure the truth lies somewhere in between the opinion of the overly-proud parents of ODP players and the folks that are so quick to crap on the program. Yes, my (06) daughter is in the program. But I've been to enough training sessions to know that the vast majority of the girls in it are very good players. I also know a lot of good players that didn't make it.

Others have said this before. The only way to fix it is to take 'Olympic' out of the name. We wouldn't even be talking about this.

Having once being involved in the NTX ODP program this isn't fun to say ...

But with the onset of leagues/programs such as ECNL and USSF DA, ODP has already seen it's last days as being a legitimately competitive program here.

There are recreational players making those teams now and, sadly, most aren't on the level to compete with even a LHGCL D1 team.

No Kool Aid required to see this --

All players called up would have been registered in the ODP program and in good standing.

I do believe the Aggie event was in direct conflict with a jr ECNL event. Can someone confirm?

For not playing together saw some good skill and strategy. We will continue the program I see some good benefit w game speed and startegy.i will keep drinking the ODP Kool aid.

Truth about ODP is painful. My DD also went through the program. What she gained from it at its top level was minimal.

NH, No use arguing with the masses on this one. From past threads on this topic, it's clear most posters don't have any recent first hand experience with ODP. I agree with your earlier post, I know of a few 06 starters on top ten D1 teams that didn't get invited following tryouts. Generally speaking, the parents of the ones who did get invited have very good things to say about the program.

As girls mature, smaller club players look for outside options to stay challenged and get exposure. ODP serves it's purpose for some of the smaller club players and a few big club players. For example, this past weekend at College Station the top 04 team was largely comprised of starters on LH D2 teams at the top of the standings and various LH D1 players. The combined team was LH D1 talent. Elite level, probably not, but a notch above some of the 04 JDL teams I have seen.

Even at the 03 level, I am aware of multiple top starters on D1 LH teams that played in the ODP tournament this past weekend. Are they they norm, no, but the top 03 team this weekend did have it's share of D1 talent. Some will complain that the talent pool is thin at the 03 level and beyond. Sure..fine...It drops off quickly, but the top 15-18 players at least at the 03 age are high quality. Beyond 03 (U14), I don't have any first hand experience.

If the talent trend stays consistent, you can get at least 3 more years out of ODP. Best of luck on your journey NH.

Thanks for your post Shake- that's pretty spot on.

Another thing I didn't mention is the tryout. I don't see how having your daughter go through the process of trying out/making a supposed "elite" team could be considered anything but a valuable experience, at least from a confidence building standpoint.

I don't know how much can be attributed to ODP, but she's absolutely a better and more confident player since having joined.

And yes, she's on a top ten D1 team, and most of the girls she played with over the weekend are D1 players as well. I was very impressed with most of them.
