I don't think so- I think trying to win the ball and block with your body ( shielding while running full blast ) is physical play. No call was the right call as possession was won during the play, if she didn't end up with the ball you have a point. #9 had similar tackles, evident in minute 5:33 on (twitter 2nd half) as well as others on OKC. play the body and then the ball in that tackle. Its all part of the game.

She made no effort at the ball and altered her run at the last minute to drop a hit on the opposing player.

That's ridiculous. I stand by my Ronnie Lott comparison. Not only the American Football tackle part, but the Bay Area tie-in works, too. Even Ted Lasso had to learn the difference between the two when becoming the Tottenham coach for a day or two.

No I don't think when a player get's knocked down it is always a foul. Like one blogger noted shoulder to shoulder, one passed the other. The idea is to win the ball and play it. This game alone many were knocked down, pushed and the one Quakes player fell multiple times. ( on film ) It looked like to me the young lady who was hurt might have had her foot stuck in turf as well. Strong players or bigger girls tend to have girls bounce off of them, that was evident on both sides.

There is no such thing as "shielding" without the ball. Where the ball "ends up" has no bearing on the play. These are elements that are not in the Law. Lots of inexperienced referees do the same thing. It's legislating from the bench.

There are only two elements at play here. Was it a fair challenge? And was the use of f'rce appropriate? IMHO the use of f'rce was excessive. That is obviously open to opinion. The other elements you bring in to play are not.

I would have no problem if the ref called a foul on the play. I personally didn’t think it was but it could easily go either way. I just took exception to someone calling the player dirty Bc of it. Not even close to a dirty play.

To the above post saying when someone falls down it should be a foul. Wrong!

Maybe dirty is too strong, so I'll go with illegal. I don't think she intended to hurt the opponent and why would she ever stop playing that way when bad refs let that stuff go way too often. Until the refs call the game right, you'll see overly-aggressive, illegal plays like this. And, unfortunately, DDs in compromised positions will get hurt because of it. Tune into EPL this weekend and I guarantee the refs would never let a foul like that go and likely would raise their yellow card, too.

It appeared Fcd rested their starters today or missed their key players to school conflicts. Ok team was a clean kick ball team with kicking and screaming coach. I wouldn’t let my dd near him.
