As previously stated they are used to seed tournaments and give you an edge for filling in at supercopa. If you are always willing to take the top division and do not care with whom you match up in a regular tournament, then not so important.

It is useful to have a quantitative methodology to compare teams relative to one another. Definitely helpful when seeding tourneys, especially teams from different geographies. It's also helpful for teams wanting to track their improvement in relation to other local, state and national teams. The data gets better and better, especially as teams from across the country match up.

This thread is rather comical. I too was enamored with rankings and such when my DD was younger. Not because I thought she should be on a high ranking team, but rather to show how she or her team had improved. Believe me when I say So Cal has talent that runs deep. Deeper than NTX, believe me. Now does NTX have a few teams that could challenge such SoCal dominance? Absolutely! A few come to mind. Maybe this Angelone team. SoCal has done it on a consistent basis. NTX has not. That is why you see an apparent bias toward those teams. The bias is toward the region with an abundance of talent. NTX is close but not there yet, and with the number of leagues there are spreading the talent out as it is, you may never see it achieved.

Anybody can tweek numbers--Watch the damn game......We all know the guy who runs these rankings in a west coast guy...We get it...But in all major tournaments NTX teams own So-cal teams....Go look at the scores

SuperCopa? Do not bring up SuperCopa like its the tell all. Great tourney though, it is not Surf. Do not kid yourself.

Many would argue and some would have a point about why NTX teams travel when we have “an abundance of talent right here”. If NTX does have an abundance why are we talking about a tournament in San Diego or one that travels. Very few SoCal teams travel outside of their region because they already have competition there. Oh some do, and a couple travel about the country. Not as much as NTX teams. NTX is great at soccer, we are. Have some very good teams at many different levels. Falls off very quickly at each level in my opinion, but some very talented teams. Some can compete with the SoCal’s. Look at it as a whole! Very different!

You are right NTX has brought home many Cups from Surf Cup. That isn’t the question though. Those same teams come back here and win 8-0 over teams that are not nearly as talented. We are talking about decimals here. The difference is not major. You want a major difference? Make a list of all the NTX players on or have made the WNT. Figure the politics out on that one and you may have something to argue about.

First of all its D’Feeters not DeFeeters. It’s DKSC now. Do yourself a favor and go check out their website. I doubt you win many debates with your son either.

If these 09 NTX teams are that good, let's wait and see what happens if and when they turn DA/ECNL and compete against SOCAL teams in NTL playoffs. The debate will have more value then. The three teams noted above most likely wont be together anyhow at that time.

One reason NTX travel is to not have to play the same teams multiple times. The LA area has about twice the population so you have less chance of playing the same teams more than once, or twice, or more.
