Clubs and Teams During COVID-19 Empty Clubs and Teams During COVID-19

Post by DonArciniega 25/04/20, 09:16 am

During this crazy time, Billy Bob’s team really has done nothing.   Every once in a while, the coach will send a simple text to the team, and the manager has texted once to make sure that we plan on rejoining the team.  The club also provided access to a website (sort of) that contained useless (arguably) skill videos.  To be honest, I did not expect more during this time,  and I am fine with it.    I have been around long enough to know the drill.  That being said, I have seen where teams are doing Zoom conferences, online practices, providing practice videos, or doing interesting things like having trivia competitions on Zoom.   I really applaud those coaches and clubs.   Being optimistic (rather than cynical), I think giving extra effort during this time might evidence that the coaches and clubs really care and are invested.  Then again, I am not known for being bright.

Anyway, I actually would be interested in knowing what teams and clubs are doing during COVID-19.  I think it would provide others with helpful information on evaluating clubs and teams.   Plus, it would give everyone a chance to show positivity toward their coach and team.  At the same time, it will allow me to determine if Billy Bob’s coach and club is the normal.

Also, has anyone heard how clubs plan on approaching or changing next year?    With the uncertainty, I am going to find it it difficult to a make a financial commitment for a year.

Finally, how about any changes with NTSSA or leagues?    To me, this would be a great opportunity for NTSSA to change some rules and allow mor flexibility.   Personally, I would be in favor of relaxing restrictions concerning transfers and requiring year long commitments.  I understand the reasoning, but I have always found it crazy that we expect kids to make a year long commitment to a club, especially when that commitment tends to run one way.  I believe in chaos and the free market.

This might be a good time for teams, clubs, and organizations to think outside the box.  I hope everyone is surviving and staying safe.

I just posted on a different link but maybe I should have posted here instead! I am curious why some clubs are getting new kits for the 20/21 season when so many have been financially impacted by the virus. Also, who knows when the kids will be practicing together again let along playing again to be wearing their fancy new uniforms.

Damn someone needs to get some fresh air, more sleep or a pet to rub on since it's obvious you aren't getting any lovin' anywhere else. Since I see your name all over this board I am guessing the only "friends" you have are the ones out here.

I was asking a simple question. As you know families pay thousands of dollars to be on a team let alone hundreds for kits. A lot of people who have kids playing for clubs no longer have jobs and clubs switching kits every two years I think can hold off another year.

Peace out

Roxie knows she can get her lovin’ from SA. He’s always available from what I understand. Read the best post of 2019 if you need to catch up. ✌🏻

Practice 2x/week plus fitness training on weekends. All via zoom. All kids work out remotely- coach watches and coaches drills.

DPR, thanks for the response.  Based on the lack of responses, I am guessing your experience is the exception, not the rule.   Once again, I am not judging.   I did not expect too much from most teams and clubs, but I believe it possibly says a lot about the club or coach when they do that little extra for the players. I would love to hear more positive experiences and the identification of coaches and clubs.  It might help other individuals in exploring their options, especially considering there is the possibility of a similar experience in the fall.

Our 06 D1 team is practicing virtually twice a week. This consists of a warm up of juggling, headers and foot skills followed by different workouts on screen that the team does together. The girls are given weekly assignments to do on their own daily, including club provided skills training, analyzing soccer matches, conditioning workouts and working on an individual goal and reporting their progress. The players are also taking turns creating a soccer trivia quiz that they do during the meeting. I personally think it's important to keep everyone motivated (and positive!) and maintain team unity.

My DD 05G's team is twice weekly zoom sessions in the back yard, different each week. Then a daily homework sheet due weekly, basically 500 touches a day different skills each week.

For my Rec 09G's I send out a weekly plan, not to much participation.

My son's club has been doing video workouts since the shelter at home started.  The club coaches put out a new video a few times a week and also have team zoom calls once a week.  On the videos, they do ball skill drills along with strength training.

Last week they stared team zoom practices twice a week to go along with the workout videos.   They also have been doing optional yoga via zoom as well.

Our team is doing Yoga on Monday’s and practicing on Tuesday, Wednesday & Thursday, all via Zoom. The girls are given running assignments over the weekend. Something like 4 miles between Friday-Monday, no more than 2 miles per day.
