Classic League Promotion/Relegation implications for 2008's Empty Classic League Promotion/Relegation implications for 2008's

Post by BusbyBabes 19/03/19, 01:17 pm

So in perusing the Chambers website, based on the current structure, a 2008 team that is not currently in Classic League that places top 6 in the Qualifying Challenge tournament in May and finishes 1st or 2nd in all future leagues, would have the following trajectory:

u11 - 2018 - 2019 - Place top 6 in QT May 2019
u12 - 2019 - 2020 - Promotion to D2.  Place top 2 in D2
u13 - 2020 - 2021 - Promotion to "new" D2.  Place top 2 in D2
u14 - 2021 - 2022 - Promotion to D1

Does this look correct?  The format change to 11v11 and creation of 3 divisions really sets a team back an additional year.  Also, really limits a team long-term aspirations to develop their own, when a 10/11 year old has to wait until he is 13/14 to compete at the highest level of league competition, aside from DA.  Shocking really.

u11 (2018-2019)
- 40 Teams, D1 & D2
- Bottom 4 D1 to D2, Top 4 from D2 to D1
- Bottom 6 D1 are out, QT places for top 6 teams

u12 (2019 - 2020)
- 40 Teams, D1 & D2
- Top 8 D1 & 11th and 12th D1 -> D1
- 9th and 10th D1, 13th – 18th D1, 1st & 2nd D2 -> D2
- Bottom 2 D1, 3rd & 4th D2, QT 5 places -> D3
- 5th – 20th D2 -> Out

u13 (2020 - 2021 and future years)
- 30 Teams, D1, D2 & D3
- 2 promotion / 2 relegated between divisions
- Bottom 6 D3 out.

You do have it correct, except for at the bottom for the u11 (2018-2019) I think you mean to say bottom 6 D2 are out, not bottom 6 D1 as you have it.

To your point, yes, a team qualifying for next year has a long road ahead, but it's not impossible for a team to qualify for D2, stay in D2 and then move up to D1 their third year. Very hard, but not impossible. It's true that a team is in that position, but a player sure isn't. There is a LOT of movement on teams after the U12 year and each year after, as players want to get on better teams, or in a better division, or bench players on a D1 team move to D2 teams so that they can get more play time. A team might be in a certain division, but each player has to find the team and coach that works best for their level and development.
