Re: Plano Labor Day preliminary schedule
Great job to all the players. We the parents are the ones that just had to sit and watch them play.

By the way, I do think they're a good team. Not a top 10 team but a good team.

I know there are several over the course of the year that lower Classic teams avoid because it only has the heavy hitters in it. Seems like an easy answer to me. Their previous three tourneys before the Plano Labor Day doesn't seem to indicate they're looking to play those teams.

That does make a lot of sense "layinlow". From what I understand, Sparta has been asking to play gold. I guess the only way to do that, is do what you suggested. I would figure that Plano would at least let them try to play in the top bracket. Why travel to seek out the top teams, when many of them are in our back yard. NORTH TEXAS. I don't know how Sparta would do in the top bracket either, they just wanted a shot.
Until they get a chance to test themselves against the top talent, they will never know.
Previous tournaments won, played in or registered in-- it looks like they have always requested gold. Adidas tournament would have let them play a top 10 teams, but that was during the spring rain season and it was canceled.
Either way it was a great tournament overall. Good job to all the teams in all the brackets.

Good point turftoe9. 03 Solar programs are the best of the best in Texas.

Re: Plano Labor Day preliminary schedule
What gives you the impression that I think Sting Hilton is the top 03 team? I never said that, only that they were on fire during the tournament leading up to the final.
They are a quality side with some talented hard working athletes, the parents seem pretty even keeled on the sidelines and I have the greatest of respect for Stuart and what he's about.
That said, I think the Solar teams are the best in the 03 world here in North Texas...and by a decent amount. I just wished one of those Solar teams would go about business in a more humble, sportsmanlike manner...just my opinion mind you.

Re: Plano Labor Day preliminary schedule
"...and Sting played courageously in spells they are probably the best 03 team playing in 03 LH that you will see all year. I'd expect them to win every tournament they play as they are generally a cut above everyone else."
If so, then I'm sorry if I did not clearly communicate. In context what I meant was that I think Solar Chelsea 03/Hopkins is the best team. I was trying to say that other teams played well in spells against them but they are the Giant's in the LH D1 03 world right now and until ECNL or Age Pure changes that I don't expect that to change.
Sorry if I was unclear in stating that. I'm thinking of that line from one of those famous Steve Martin movies...."Some people have a way with words....and, uh, uh...others....uh, not have way."

Hey if you wanna play with the "big girls" you have to accept the "big girls " environment. It is competitive on and off the field.
I'm a little curious if the in-tell is inaccurate and which D1 team Sparta declined to scrimmage against for fear of losing players to. What is recently that the team supposedly declined? The team and parents have a long history of retaining their players and their players are dedicated to the team and coaches.

Re: Plano Labor Day preliminary schedule
I'd pretty much agree that they should win most tournaments they enter. They have the best goal scorer in the 03 division so that's a big plus and covers up any other deficiencies they might have when you know you have someone that at any given moment can run over or around anyone and score. There's really only two teams that consistently give them trouble, Solar Red and FCD Elite.
Things will definitely change next year with ECNL and age pure but until then I'd put my money on them most tournaments.

Sparta has speed and they like to kick and gun. That's the American soccer!!!
You have most definitely not seen us play or your team has been beaten by the speed we can use from time to time
I'd suggest all the Sparta faithful like justme76, reccostx, imjustsayin, and mustbesparta let the team's results speak for themselves.
Why all the self promotion?
Here's an idea take a page out of the FWFC Black playbook
And win with class and humbleness and lose without making excuses.
That's how you earn the respect you're longing for.
FWFC, a fellow indie, dominated D2 last year and now are making noise in D1.
Sparta could be that same type of team
